Kick Off the New Year with a Whiter Smile
You’ve just come through a holiday season where you likely ate and drank more than usual. Chances are that some of what you consumed was dark, including coffee, wine, and chocolate.
Maybe now, when you look in the mirror, your pearly whites aren’t quite as white as they used to be. And what better time than a new year to do something about it?
At American Dental Clinic in San Diego, California, we offer a couple of options for teeth whitening. Both can ramp up the brightness of your smile quickly. Here’s how they work.
What’s the problem?
Teeth often need whitening because they become discolored over time. That can happen due to dark-colored foods that stain your teeth, such as berries, wine, and coffee.
Discolored teeth can also result from smoking or tobacco use, poor oral hygiene, genetics, aging, certain medications, and dental trauma.
Teeth whitening treatments can bleach the stains, break them up, and lift them from your teeth, leaving your smile looking bright and refreshed, reinvigorating your appearance, and perhaps even giving you a boost of confidence.
In-office teeth whitening
Our ZOOM! whitening treatment is an in-office, chairside procedure. Dr. Emmanuel Aguilar or a member of our team applies a safe whitening gel to your teeth and shines a low-intensity light on the gel to activate the whitening activity.
Molecules in the gel move beyond the surface of your teeth as they work to break down the stains that have built up over time.
The ZOOM! whitening procedure can make your teeth 6-10 shades brighter in just an hour.
At-home teeth whitening
An alternative whitening option is a tray whitening system. We start by making an impression of your teeth and creating custom whitening trays that fit exactly over your teeth.
Once you have the trays, you add a whitening gel and wear the trays for a short period of time each day for several days. After treatment, you can expect your teeth to be 4-8 shades whiter.
If you have extensive or severe discoloration, covering your teeth with porcelain veneers may be a more effective option.
To determine which treatment might be most effective for your teeth, ask about teeth whitening at American Dental Clinic during your regular cleaning. Dr. Aguilar discusses your options to help you decide on the right treatment.
